What is EVM’s Design and Technology?

An EVM consists mainly of two units, the control unit, and the balloting unit. These two units are connected by a five-meter cable. At the same time, the Control Unit provides the office in-charge of that booth so that they control a “Ballot” marked button so that the next voter can go inside to vote. When polling ends, then the Presiding Officer is given the account of votes to all the polling agents in that booth, for the counting. When counting of votes is done, then total votes are collected and if any discrepancy occurs then those Counting Agents bring that mistake to the presiding officer.

Well, during the counting of votes, the results can be easily displayed through the ‘Result’ button. There are two safeguards, which can be prevented from pressing the ‘Result’ button until votes counting starts officially.

(a) This button can not be pressed unless the ‘Close’ button is pressed by the Polling Officer in-charge by the same polling booth.

(b) This button is kept hidden and sealed; And this seal is opened only in the counting center, in the designated office in the presence of everyone.
